Enzo Maresca fumes at refereeing display in Leicester’s draw at Hull City
The Tigers twice led against the Foxes only to be pegged back
Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca was not at all happy with the performance of referee Sam Barrott in the Foxes enthralling 2-2 draw with play-off hopefuls Hull City on Saturday.
The Tigers were awarded an early penalty when Regan Slater’s lung-bursting run was brought to a shuddering halt inside the box, but Fabio Carvalho saw
his seventh-minute spot-kick saved by Mads Hermansen. Carvalho made up for that miss shortly after when he slammed in the opening goal, but the league leaders levelled up from a penalty of their own which Jamie Vardy scored.
Maresca felt Vardy should have had a second half penalty and also suggested Jean Michael Seri should have been issued with a second yellow card later in the game during a chaotic minute which saw Anass Zaroury fire City back in front, only for Vardy to clinically level almost immediately.

“Sometimes there are no words,” a furious Maresca said. “Today was the same referee as Ipswich away when, at 1-0, there was no penalty for us. Today, the penalty for them was outside the box, the second yellow card for Seri and the second penalty for us with Jamie Vardy.
“These are all crucial moments, especially these three situations. They are crucial moments. I don’t have any more words on the referee’s decisions. We haven’t been lucky with this referee. In two games, he probably cost us some points.”
Tigers boss Rosenior, however, felt on first look that Stephy Mavididi’s foul on Slater was worthy of a spot-kick. The contact on City’s dynamic midfielder started outside the box but continued into it as he fell to the ground, but he also felt Seri’s minimal contact on Abdul Fatawu warranted a penalty.
“Both penalties were penalties,” Rosenior told Hull Live. “I’ve seen a replay on Regan’s but not on theirs. The penalty for us that Fabio misses, contact starts outside the box and on the line. That’s a penalty,” he added.
