Crystal Palace set to sign £21m player Roy Keane once called “outstanding” this summer as deal was finalized with the Ace
Crystal Palace’s list of transfer links this summer is substantial but there is one which is very exciting and Roy Keane thinks he’s top-tier.
This summer always felt like it would be the beginning of something special for Crystal Palace with Oliver Glasner a strong appointment for the club.
Glasner’s on-field performances have thus far blown everyone away as his Eagles side went seven unbeaten to conclude the campaign and finished 10th in the Premier League. This was above rivals Brighton which was a shock considering the narrative about the two sides up until February.
But in order for the team to continue rising up the table next season, and potentially challenge for Europe, a summer of strengthening was needed.
This is exactly what has begun to happen, with Chadi Riad arriving and Daichi Kamada thought to be next. But there is one target which would be a real statement.
Roy Keane called Crystal Palace target Sofyan Amrabat “outstanding”
Last month, Palace were linked with making a move to sign current Manchester United loanee Sofyan Amrabat, who is due to return to Fiorentina in June.
Scouts from Selhurst Park were said to be monitoring Amrabat, and this happened to be when he emerged as a starter for United.
Now with the Red Devils unlikely to take up their £21m option to purchase him, Palace are one of multiple Premier League sides keen on the Moroccan.
It’s little surprise either as the midfielder has shown recently how good he can be, throwing it back to his World Cup performances which left Roy Keane gobsmacked.
Speaking about Amrabat after the tournament, Keane said: “He was outstanding.”
With one of the league’s best-ever defensive midfielders giving his seal of approval, it’s safe to say Amrabat would be a sublime pick-up for Palace.
What has Sofyan Amrabat said about his future?
While United haven’t triggered their option to buy Amrabat just yet, there is still a chance that they do, as the Morocco international revealed after last weekend’s FA Cup final win.
Speaking with Ziggo Sport, he said: “Do I already know what I’m going to do next year? No. We are going to talk. Staying is certainly an option.
“Look, I think it has been a very difficult season. For Manchester United, it needs to be much better, and also for me personally. We are going to talk.
“Manchester United are the biggest club in the world, so who wouldn’t want to play football here? But all parties have to be happy with each other, so we will sit down now and see what happens.”
If available, Amrabat could be a very good move from Palace, as placing him alongside Adam Wharton could give Glasner a midfield impossible to bypass.
