The Tigers are primed for a busy summer of transfer activity irrespective of what division they find themselves in

Hull City have been linked with Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Marc Leonard, who has impressed on loan with League One outfit Northampton Town.

The 22-year-old has just finished his second loan spell at Sixfields Stadium and will depart the Cobblers having won the Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season at the club’s awards ceremony last month.

A former Scotland Under-21 international, Leonard penned fresh terms at the Amex Stadium last summer before heading back to Sixfields for a second loan spell, where he again impressed with Jon Brady’s side this season, netting five times and clocking up six assists from central midfield.

A former Rangers and Hearts youngster, Leonard is also attracting interest from Sheffield United, according to Football Insider, who suggest he could be available for as little as £300,000, with Albion prepared to sanction his departure this summer, with him under contract until next summer with the top flight outfit having the option for a further 12 months.

City boss Liam Rosenior held another recruitment meeting on Wednesday as the Tigers continue to put plans in place for the summer, which could yet see the Tigers preparing for a season in the Premier League, depending on what happens on the final weekend of the Championship season.

Speaking previously about City’s recruitment plans whether the club finds themselves in the Premier League or Championship, boss Rosenior said: “I think that a lot of clubs think they have to go completely different when they get promoted to the Premier League. That they have to go to a different market. I don’t agree.

“From my experiences as a player, here, and especially at Brighton as well when we were promoted, we kept the core group. We kept the core group because you are used to winning games. I watched Chelsea (versus) Leeds (In the FA Cup), it was a really good game and I felt Leeds were really, really good.

“Leeds were a team that are used to winning games of football this season and it made for a really, really tough game for Chelsea. Having momentum, I remember Sheffield United with Chris Wilder. They went up and they did really, really well with the same group.

“For me, what division we’re in doesn’t really affect my thinking in terms of what we need. It may change the level of player that you’re looking to bring in, but I don’t think you need to start breaking the bank to be successful at the next level.
