Reaction: Cleverley On Ipswich Point - Watford FC

Watford hold firm stance over immediate future of 14-goal/assist starter but unfortunately…

Watford have no plans to sell attacking midfielder Yaser Asprilla this summer, a report from the Watford Observer has said.
Watford are gearing up for an important summer transfer window as they embark on what they hope will be a brighter future at Vicarage Road.

The 2023/24 campaign was a tough one for the Hornets but after a promising end under now permanent boss Tom Cleverley, the hope will be that they can recruit well in the transfer window and push back up the Championship table.

While new signings will be key though, it’s also important that the club retain their key players.

Among them is Colombian prospect Asprilla, who is the subject of regular transfer speculation. However, with the window on the horizon, Watford’s firm stance has been reported.

The Watford Observer states that the club have no intention of cashing in on their prized asset. The Hornets do not need to sell the 20-year-old to raise funds this summer and Asprilla himself is more than happy at the club.

An ‘eye-watering’ bid could give the club something to think about, but unless admirers are willing to level up their offers, it seems likely that he stays put at Vicarage Road.

Watford are no strangers to selling key assets to top clubs for big fees, so this update on Asprilla’s immediate future will be welcomed with opens arms by supporters.

Only last summer the club cashed in on Joao Pedro and Ismaila Sarr. A failure to win promotion this time around will have had some concerned that Asprilla would be the next to follow them up the leagues.

However, it seems the club are in a good enough financial position to resist offers and with the player happy at Vicarage Road, perhaps only a huge offer will be enough to see the club and prospect part ways this summer.

Asprilla has long been one of the Hornets’ most promising talents but the 2023/24 campaign saw him kick things up a notch. Starts were more regular and his attacking output was the best we’ve seen from him.

Asprilla managed six goals and eight assists in 47 games overall, totalling 14 goal contributions.

If he can kick on from that and reach an even higher level, perhaps Watford will have a star capable of carrying them up the league next season.

If he continues on his upward trajectory, it might not be long before big clubs are willing to cough up the money the Hornets want for Asprilla. As things stand though, it seems he’ll be staying put.
