BREAKING: Green Bay Packers Sign 25-Year-Old Linebacker

The Green Bay Packers will be putting a lot of work into their defense this off-season.  “Middle of the pack” isn’t good enough for Jeff Hafley’s crew.  The completely revamped defensive coaching staff will be bringing a new energy and mindset to a defense who seems to have the potential, but has been unable to put it all together.

Today it was announced that the Packers would be bringing in a 25-year-old line backer for (at least) the 2024 season.

Welch, 25, joined the Packers practice squad before Week 1 and was promoted to the active roster in September. During his time with the team, he played in 14 games and saw 210 snaps on special teams, producing six tackles on those teams.

Rich Bisaccia keeps one of his most trusted special teamers by bringing back Welch – especially with the Packers’ switch to a 4-3 base defense.

The Packers’ Special Teams Will Be A Focus Point In 2024

Anders Carlson will have his work cut out for him to keep his spot on the roster.  While the Packers will give him every opportunity to earn his job, he will still have to execute.

Jack Podlesny was signed less than 96 hours after the Packers’ season ended.

For the Bulldogs, Podlesny (6-0, 195) was a three-year starter who made 61 of 74 field goals (82.4%) and 182 of 184 extra points (98.9%). Despite that, he made just three out of eight field goals beyond 40 yards in 2022 (37.5%).

Rich Bisaccia will look to continue to improve the Packers’ coverage teams, however, penalties will be the key focus during the off-season.  The Packers were one of the most penalized teams on special teams in the NFL in 2023.
