Jimmy Garoppolo: Las Vegas Raiders QB's status vs. Chicago Bears

Chargers QB Justin Herbert Given Massive Injury Update Ahead of Week 3 Matchup

The Los Angeles Chargers may be able to breathe a sigh of relief after the latest update on star quarterback Justin Herbert. He has been dealing with an ankle injury and his status for Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers was in question. But now it seems that the signal-caller will likely suit up against Pittsburgh. He has been listed as questionable entering this game due to his issue but there is optimism that he will indeed play against the Steelers.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport provided the latest injury update on social media. This news would be a massive boost to the overall chances of the Chargers this weekend. Los Angeles is looking to remain undefeated to start the season after two wins over the Las Vegas Raiders and Carolina Panthers.

This game against the Steelers is a battle between two teams that are 2-0 on the season so having Herbert on the field makes it that much more interesting. Both sides have thrived off solid running games and strong defensive play.

The Chargers passing offense has left some things to be desired under their new system but Herbert gives them a chance each time out. He may not be 100 percent in the game but if he feels okay enough to play, the Chargers aren’t going to stand in his way. There was some thought that the Chargers could be cautious with his injury to avoid this lingering throughout the season. But it seems that he has healed enough that he could suit up. If Herbert ends up not being able to give it a go, backup Easton Stick will take over for him. Stick played in four games for the Chargers last season when Herbert was down due to another injury and went winless in his attempts.

He threw for 1,129 yards with three touchdowns and one interception during his time. His biggest issue was the lack of control within the offense but this version of the Chargers is much better than they were a year ago. The hope is that Herbert is able to suit up and help Los Angeles try to stay undrafted in the new year. After the game against the Steelers, the Bolts have two straight divisional matchups to look forward to.

Raiders QB Grades for the 2023-24 NFL Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers are placing rookie offensive tackle Troy Fautanu on the injured reserve list with a knee injury, the team announced on Saturday. The news came on Saturday with two other roster moves ahead of Week 3, including the promotion of OT John Leglue and DB James Pierre

to the active roster from the practice squad.

Fautanu’s loss puts second-year OT Broderick Jones in place to start indefinitely, just one week after being benched amid a disastrous performance in Week 2. Fautanu had only just been listed as the starting right tackle on the depth chart earlier this week.

Fautanu originally suffered a knee injury in Week 1 of the preseason, but got the start in Week 2 of the regular season once healthy. Unfortunately, he “tweaked” the knee issue in Friday’s practice, and news came soon after that he would be out “indefinitely” with the injury.

Unfortunately, Jones isn’t fully healthy at the moment either, as he’s been dealing with an elbow injury. He struggled through the preseason and with Fautanu out in Week 1, giving up two sacks. In just four snaps played in Week 2, Jones played just four total snaps, having committed penalties on three of them — two holding calls and a false start.
