Everton make approach to sign Yaser Asprilla in late Watford transfer news

Everton have made an approach to sign Watford star Yaser Aprilla before the January transfer deadline, as have Sporting Lisbon, according to Pipe Sierra.

The Colombian journalist shared via his X account on 1 February that the bids made were not enough to satisfy Watford’s demands and therefore were not successful.

Watford hope that his involvement in the Colombian national team will allow them to analyse options in the summer window, with bigger fees expected than were on offer from Everton.

Another disappointing deadline

Everton have yet again struggled to do business in the January transfer window, and even the business they did attempt to get over the line proved dissatisfactory in the eyes of the selling club.

Asprilla is the prized asset at Watford and crucial to their upturn in form this season, so it would have taken a significant bid to tempt them to let go of him so late in the window when they would have been unable to find a replacement before the deadline.

The Colombian has made 27 Championship appearances so far this season, scoring four goals and providing four assists, and is able to play both in the middle and on the wing to provide strength in depth for Sean Dyche’s team

In the end, it proved to be too little, too late for Everton in January as no significant improvements have been made to their team, and Dyche will once again be asked to work miracles to save this squad from a relegation battle.
