Pirates acquire minor-league infielder Keiner Delgado from Yankees to complete JT Brubaker trade

The Pittsburgh Pirates completed the March 29 trade of pitcher JT Brubaker to the New York Yankees on Tuesday, acquiring switch-hitting, minor-league second baseman/shortstop Keiner Delgado as the player to be named.

Delgado, 20, is rated the 20th-best Yankees prospect by MLB Pipeline after he was named last year to the Florida Complex League’s postseason All-Star team. He led the league in runs scored (54) and stolen bases (36), was second in hits (58) and total bases (96), third in extra-base hits (21) and tied for fourth in home runs (eight). His first taste of professional baseball was in the Dominican Summer League in 2022, where he ranked second in OBP (.504) and walks (58), tied for second in stolen bases (34) and tied for third in runs scored (50).

He was named to the Dominican Summer League’s midseason and postseason All-Star teams while also recognized by MiLB.com as an organizational all-star.

Brubaker, 30, is on the 60-day injured list while recovering from Tommy John surgery April 12, 2023. He is targeting the All-Star break for a return to the majors, according to MLB.com.
