Blackburn Rovers will hope for one Thomas Kaminski outcome in particular as Ipswich Town lurk: View

Blackburn Rovers need a new goalkeeper due to Kaminski’s departure and Pears and Wahlstedt’s errors.

Thomas Kaminski’s potential move to Ipswich Town could impact Blackburn’s pursuit of a new goalkeeper.

Luton may keep Krul if Kaminski leaves, complicating Blackburn’s search for a new goalkeeper.

The summer of 2023 saw some rather high profile from Ewood Park for Blackburn Rovers to deal with.

That left the club needing bring in some strong new recruits, if they were to have a chance of replicating their push for a place in the Championship play-off from the 2022/23 season.

In the end though, that did not happen, and the club spent much of the most recent campaign battling to avoid relegation to League One, with survival only confirmed on the final day.

This summer, the ongoing financial uncertainty around the club means there is a sense that most fans will settle for the club simply being able to put together a squad that can stay clear of the bottom three.

However, that may well be influenced, to some extent at least, by the immediate future of one of those who made their own departure from Blackburn Rovers last summer.

Thomas Kaminski on the move again

After three years with the club, Thomas Kaminski would depart Ewood Park in August 2023, to join Luton Town, who at the time had just been promoted to the Premier League.

It was reported that the Hatters paid a fee in the region to sign the goalkeeper, who had made 118 appearances in all competitions during his time with Rovers.

While Kaminski had almost always been a reliable option between the posts while at Blackburn, his departure from the club proved costly.

Aynsley Pears was trusted to step into the number one vacated by the Belgian, with Leo Wahlstedt brought in to provide cover and competition.

Both though, would make a number of damaging errors over the course of the campaign, that did not help Rovers as they attempted to keep clear of the relegation zone.

As a result, the way things have played out since the end of the season, means there is an argument that those of a Blackburn persuasion, will again be taking an interest in Kaminski’s future this summer.

In the end, Kaminski’s debut campaign with Luton would end in disappointment, with the club suffering relegation back to the Championship after just a single season in the top-flight.

However, the goalkeeper did his own personal reputation little harm during the course of the campaign.

The 31-year-old won plenty of praise for his performances, so much so that another newly promoted Premier League side, Ipswich Town, have now been credited with an interest in his services.
