Sheffield Wednesday have won the race for Jamal Lowe.
A number of Championship clubs were reportedly interested in signing forward Jamal Lowe on a free transfer, but it is Sheffield Wednesday that have agreed a deal with the 29-year-old.
Millwall, Watford, Portsmouth, Derby County and Norwich City have all been linked with a move for Lowe at various points since the back end of last season.
Lowe was released by AFC Bournemouth after spending the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Swansea City, where he scored nine goals in 35 appearances in the second tier.
Jamal Lowe reveals reason for joining Sheffield Wednesday
Lowe was not short of options after he became a free agent this summer, with several Championship clubs registering an interest in the attacker.
There was plenty of speculation linking him with a move back to his former club, Portsmouth, but it was confirmed in June that they could not afford his wage demands despite admiring his qualities.
Since it was confirmed that he would be making the move to Hillsborough, Lowe has spoken about the deciding factor which made him choose to sign for the Owls.
The Star reported on Lowe’s first words after signing for Sheffield Wednesday.
He said: “I’ve known how big the club is, how big the fanbase is, and what else pushed it was the ambitions of the manager – how active he is, and how ambitious he is. Also, how his thought process works. That was another major key for coming down.
“I spoke to him a few times before coming and everything was so positive – it sounds like exactly how I want to play, the style is what I want to be involved in, the ambitions too. It was a no-brainer really when I heard the words come out of his mouth. It’s something I want to be a part of, and repay the faith he’s put in me.”
It is not a huge surprise to hear that manager Danny Rohl was influential in convincing Lowe to sign. The German has been highly impressive since arriving in South Yorkshire last season, and comfortably guided the Owls to Championship safety.
Jamal Lowe offers versatility in the forward line
Lowe will add to Sheffield Wednesday’s forward options, which include the likes of Josh Windass, Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama.
