Sheffield Wednesday lining up their first summer signing after Championship survival

Sheffield Wednesday are already lining up their first summer signing after securing Championship survival.

Sheffield Wednesday beat Sunderland 2-0 on the final day of the Championship season to secure their league status for another year.

It was a dramatic climax to an equally dramatic but miraculous season under Danny Rohl.

The Owls were winless after the 13 games of the season, becoming the first-ever Championship side to beat the drop after going winless for so long at the start of a campaign.

And quickly, attentions are turning towards the summer and the 2024/25 season.

Sheffield Wednesday have a horde of first-team players out of contract in the summer and several others leaving when their loan deals expire.

But it looks like the Owls already have their first summer signing in their sights; loan star James Beadle.

Reports emerged earlier this week suggesting that Brighton have something of a headache in their goalkeeper department.

Beadle has impressed with Sheffield Wednesday this season, keeping eight clean sheets in 18 Championship outings since joining in January.

But it was claimed by The Athletic that Brighton may look to promote fellow Brighton gem Carl Rushworth instead; he spent this season on loan at Swansea City where he was named their Player of the Season.

Now though, Alan Nixon has revealed on his Patreon that Wednesday and Swansea are both keen on re-signing their respective loan goalkeepers this summer.

He wrote: “Swansea and Sheffield Wednesday will be on to Brighton this week for keepers Carl Rushworth and James Beadle.

“The two loanees have been stand outs in the Championship and both the Swans and Owls are keen to have them for another season.”
