Danny Rohl praised for the ‘fantastic news’ coming out of Sheffield Wednesday
Carlton Palmer has been left delighted by the ‘fantastic’ piece of business that Sheffield Wednesday have just done.
Sheffield Wednesday have impressed fans across the Championship for their pro-active and exciting transfer business.
Following Danny Rohl’s contract renewal, it didn’t take him very long to start bringing in his own players.
The Owls have welcomed nine arrivals to the club over the last five weeks, while they have also tied four players down to new contracts.
There was plenty of concern over the futures of their out-of-contract stars, with both Will Vaulks and Cameron Dawson deciding against extending their stays.
However, their survival and Rohl’s own new deal encouraged Barry Bannan, Josh Windass, Liam Palmer and Dominic Iorfa to put pen to paper.
Di’Shon Bernard’s future remained doubtful as he flew to the United States for the Copa America, but he finally pledged his commitment to the club with a new deal this week.
Supporters were left delighted by the news, while Palmer also admitted it was ‘fantastic’ business from the Owls.

Palmer says it’s ‘no surprise’ that Di’Shon Bernard wants to stay
Speaking to Football League World, he said: “More good news coming out of Hillsborough as Di’Shon Bernard has extended his contract.
“Bernard joined Wednesday last season from Manchester United, initially penning a one-year deal. The 23-year-old played 36 times for the Owls in all competitions.
“It’s great news for the club and Danny Rohl. He’s become a firm favourite of the supporters, and it’s no surprise to me that he’s wanted to sign there. They are looking to go better next season and hopefully push for a place in the play-offs, or better than that
“The fact that they’ve been able to get him to sign a new contract is fantastic news.
“And it’s great news that the club are about to jet out to Germany for their final pre-season camp ahead of the commencement of the 2024/25 campaign. It’s great to see Bernard is set to be on that flight.
“He’ll fit straight back into that group, following his huge role in their great escape last season. So this is another big boost for Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday.”
The defender is irreplaceable for Sheffield Wednesday
While the Owls are still likely to push for more signings, it does feel like Bernard’s contract renewal could be the final piece of the puzzle for Rohl.
The German has already proven he can attract quality players to Hillsborough, but keeping hold of Bernard would have been much easier than replacing him.
The centre-back looked very solid under Rohl and with plenty of years left to develop further, Wednesday could be massively boosted by an even better season for him.
The Jamaican will still need more quality around him though, and the Wednesday coach has already made it clear he wants to add a centre-back to his backline this summer.
