Stoke City ‘rebuffed in loan move’ for Liverpool left-back

Transfer gossip as Stoke City are among Championship clubs linked with former Stoke youth player and now Wales international Owen Beck

Stoke City have been apparently rebuffed in a bid to bring back former youth player Owen Beck on loan from Liverpool.

Beck, a 21-year-old attacking left-back, had been earning rave reviews out on a season-long loan at Dundee until an injury crisis at Anfield resulting in manager Jurgen Klopp triggering a recall option at the start of the month. His form in the Scottish Premiership had earned him a first senior Wales call-up in October.

The Athletic report that several Championship clubs – including Stoke, Coventry City, Millwall and Hull City – along with a handful of League One teams enquired about taking him on loan for the second half of the season. “Those approaches were rebuffed,” says the article. It is also claimed that Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers have expressed interest in the Flintshire-born defender, who started out at Stoke and switched to Liverpool’s Academy as a young teenager

Beck would probably have been included in Klopp’s matchday squad to face Arsenal in the FA Cup last weekend but he had to serve a one-match suspension – a legacy of bookings received against Bonnyrigg Rose and Inverness Caledonian Thistle while playing in the Scottish League Cup group stage in July.
