take on the challenge of working with a potentially inexperienced pitching staff. Maldonado, who spent the last four-plus seasons with the Houston Astros, played a crucial role in the Astros’ World Series victory in 2022.

In response to working with a new group of pitchers, Maldonado emphasized the importance of understanding their preferences and contributing to their success, saying, “Just understand what they want to do and how you can contribute to that success.” The veteran catcher made 116 starts at catcher last season, leading the AL, and his 3.91 catcher ERA ranked sixth in the majors. He also caught his third career no-hitter.
