Green Bay Packers make massive addition to defensive coaching staff with elite assistant
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has been busy in the early weeks of the NFL offseason making big moves in the coaching carousel. After bringing in a new defensive coordinator, the Packers coaching staff is now adding one of the best position coaches in football.
After firing defensive coordinator Joe Barry, Green Bay conducted a thorough search for its new defensive play-caller. Once the Carolina Panthers blocked the Packers’ efforts to land Ejiro Evero and Zach Orr turned down Green Bay’s offer for a promotion with the Baltimore Ravens, LaFleur struck on his next target.

Now just days after officially hiring Boston College coach Jeff Hafley as the new defensive coordinator, the Packers coaching staff is reportedly getting even stronger with the addition of a linebackers coach who could be a difference-maker for Quay Walker and Isaiah McDuffie.
According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Miami Dolphins linebackers coach Anthony Campanile is coming over to join Green Bay. Interestingly, the Packers and Dolphins are essentially swapping coaches, with Joe Barry headed to Miami to fill the same role as Campanile.
Campanile, 41, will serve as the linebackers coach and run-game coordinator on the Packers coaching staff. Before landing in Green Bay, the Rutgers alum worked in Miami for the last four seasons. Prior to that, he spent a season as the Michigan Wolverines linebackers coach under Jim Harbaugh in 2019 and worked at Boston College as a defensive backs coach (2016-’17) and co-defensive coordinator (2018) before Hafley’s arrival.
Interestingly, the Packers seemingly came out on top of a competitive market for Campanile. Silverstein also reports that he was highly coveted by the Philadelphia Eagles for the same position. He was also a defensive coordinator candidate for the New York Giants this offseason.

Campanile has an extensive background in developing linebackers. Jerome Baker, a third-round pick in 2018 emerged as a standout defender for Miami’s defense in 2022 and was excellent in coverage last season. Campanile is also
credited with getting the most out of linebacker David Long Jr. last season, with Long being one of the best run-stuffing linebackers in the NFL.
In a corresponding move on the Packers coaching staff, former outside linebackers coach Jason Rebrovich is now reportedly poised to be Green Bay’s defensive line coach in 2024.
