Robert Saleh Admits Jets Aren’t Done Adding Depth To 1 Position
The New York Jets have been aggressive this offseason so far, and there is a feeling among some that if quarterback Aaron Rodgers returns and plays at a high level, they could have a shot at reaching the Super Bowl.
They have added stud wide receiver Mike Williams and secured a couple of upgrades for what was a weak offensive line last year.
But head coach Robert Saleh said that the team is still looking to upgrade at the safety position while sending a message to Ashtyn Davis, a player he wants to retain, per Paul Andrew Esden Jr. on Twitter.
Over the last two seasons, New York has had one of the NFL’s best defenses, and they have multiple stars on that side of the football.
Quinnen Williams is an excellent defensive lineman, Quincy Williams and Jermaine Johnson II have emerged as strong linebackers, and Sauce Gardner immediately became one of the league’s best cornerbacks as a rookie in 2022.
Given that Rodgers will likely take a while to get back into game shape and rhythm and may never be the same after tearing his Achilles in Week 1 last year, the Jets will likely need to lean on their defense.
Still, they have plenty of talent across their roster, and thus Rodgers’ return date and level of play may be the only real question hanging over the long-tortured franchise.
Last season, the Jets went 7-10 under Saleh, and they haven’t made the playoffs since the 2010 campaign, giving them the NFL’s longest active playoff drought.
