It’s been a hot minute getting these negotiations to be final. Rumors started to circulate back in March when Beckham had visited Miami’s facility and head coach Mike McDaniel had confirmed that they had extended an offer. But after that, things fell silent.

As April approached, the thought of OBJ coming to Miami started to feel like a fever dream. However, the team made it official just five days after news broke that the team and OBJ had come to a contract agreement.

Beckham was offered other numbers from other teams, but decided to take a lower offer with Miami. Obviously with Beckham being a rookie in the game, it’s likely we’ll see him in the No. 3 role behind Hill and Waddle, and can potentially shift towards not heavily relying on those two to carry the offense.  Beckham also helps provide a much-needed boost, protecting and being that option for when Hill and/or Waddle go down with injuries, as we saw at the end of last season with both of them spent some time nursing injuries.

The Dolphins did also re-sign Braxton Berrios and River Cracraft, so with the new draft selections and Beckham joining the squad, the team might’ve done themselves a favor.

While he might not be that same player that he was early in his career, he still has the skills and the talent to keep up with a loaded offense like Miami’s. Granted Beckham is able to stay healthy himself, he won’t have too many issues keeping up with Waddle, Hill, and Mostert.

Beckham brings five 1,000-yard receiving seasons, but nothing like that has been accomplished by him since 2019. His 2023 season was a trend in the right direction, especially after missing all of 2022 due to a torn ACL he sustained at the Super Bowl as a member of the Los Angeles Rams.

He finished last season with 565 yards and three touchdowns on 35 catches, which is better compared to what receivers did behind Waddle and Hill, where no Miami pass-catcher had more than 35 catches or more than 366 yards.
