Rangers In Market For Dodgers Reliever

Ryan Brasier could be in line to return to Texas if the Texas Rangers are able to sign the 36-year-old right-hander in free agency. The New York Post reported the Rangers are among six teams in the market for the Wichita Falls native as he contemplates a new deal after an exceptional stretch run with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Along with the Rangers and the Dodgers, the other four teams reported to be interested in Brasier are the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles, and Los Angeles Angels, who drafted him in the sixth round of the 2007 MLB draft

Brasier attended Rider High School in Wichita Falls and Weatherford College in Weatherford, Texas. He made his MLB debut with the Angels in 2013. Brasier started last season with Boston but struggled, going 1-0 with a 7.29 ERA in 20 games before the Red Sox designated him for assignment on May 15 and released him on May 21. The Dodgers signed him on June 4. With the Dodgers, everything changed. He went 2-0 with a 0.70 ERA in 39 games with 10 holds and a save. He struck out 38, walked 10, and held hitters to a .140 batting average.

The Rangers and the other interested teams have to determine if that’s the pitcher they’ll get if they sign Brasier in free agency. After a short stint with the Angels in 2013, he resurfaced with the Red Sox in 2018 and spent the next five-plus seasons in Boston, coming away with a World Series ring in 2018. Brasie is 9-8 with a 3.88 ERA with 256 strikeouts, 79 walks, and a .234 opponent batting average in 268 MLB appearances. He has 57 holds and 10 saves.

Between the Angels and the Red Sox, he spent time in the Oakland Athletics system and played overseas with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp of Nippon Professional Baseball in 2017. He had a 3.00 ERA in 26 relief appearances with 19 strikeouts and eight walks in 30 innings with the Carp.
