Lightning acquire veteran defenseman Matt Dumba at NHL trade deadline
TAMPA, Fla. – The Lightning upgraded their blue line in the 11th hour before Friday’s 3 p.m. trade deadline, acquiring veteran right-shot defenseman Matt Dumba from the Coyotes. Tampa Bay also received a seventh-round pick in 2025 in the deal, sending a fifth-round selection in 2027 to Arizona. Dumba, a 29-year-old veteran of 11 NHL seasons, has four goals and 10 points in 58
games for the Coyotes, who signed him to a one-year deal at a $3.9 million cap hit. He can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
The Lightning were looking for defense help, especially after left-shot defenseman Mikhail Sergachev went down with a broken left leg that will likely sideline him for at least the remainder of the regular season. It was the
second deal the Lightning made in the 24 hours before the deadline. Thursday night, they acquired speedy goal-scoring left wing Anthony Duclair from San Jose in a deal that sent this year’s third-round pick and promising right-shot defenseman Jack Thompson to the Sharks.
