Diego Llorente, Roma and Leeds have “gentleman’s agreement” for £4.3m exit

Spaniard Diego Llorente headed to Roma for a second stint in the summer after relegation, clearly impressing then-manager Jose Mourinho.

The iconic Portuguese manager’s exit has thrown Llorente’s permanent transfer prospects into fresh doubts, even though he’s remained a regular under new boss Daniele De Rossi.

It was revealed earlier in 2024 that the Italian outfit had a “gentleman’s agreement” essentially in place to ensure that they signed Llorente permanently in the summer window.

Roma set to turn their back on Llorente – Report

Now, it is claimed by Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Sport Witness) that Roma are in fact not going to sign the centre-back after his loan concludes.

Alongside Rasmus Kristensen, it seems as though Llorente will be heading back to Thorp Arch in the summer, with Roma more willing to spend the £4.3million on signing Angelino from RB Leipzig, who holds a likewise buy option.

FFP headaches appear to be the reason for Llorente’s future not yet being resolved, as Roma are looking to trim down the number of players they have on loan.

Llorente won’t be coming back to play at Elland Road next season, so securing him a permanent exit is the only route.

Roma looked like the perfect move for him this summer, given how settled he is at a club playing in Europe.

If he doesn’t join them, you’d hope that someone will be keen to take him for a solid price, given the experience he has in the top flight.
