Wrexham: Phil Parkinson says club are looking at options

WREXHAM boss Phil Parkinson says the club are ‘looking at several options’ in the January window.

As always during the transfer windows, speculation and rumours mount amongst potential signings at clubs across the country.

The Reds have been troubled with injuries this season, with the likes of Aaron Hayden, Jordan Tunnicliffe, Eoghan O’Connell and Steven Fletcher spending a considerable amount of time out injured.

Ahead of Wrexham’s FA Cup clash against Shrewsbury, Parkinson admitted that the club were looking at potential new signings, but that it had to be the right fit for the group.

He said: “We’re looking at several options but we’ve got a decent squad as it stands, we want to make sure if we bring a player in obviously it’s not just for the sake of adding another player, it’s someone who we feel can make a difference to te group we’ve got.

“We’ve got players coming back from injury, players like Ryan Barnett who’s been out a long time and still really to get his season going, when we get a few players back the squad is strong.

“Of course if the right player becomes available at the right price, we’ve got the option to go and add to the squad but we’ll only do that if we feel it’s the right move for the squad.”

Ahead of the cup clash, the Reds boss said his side will embrace the title of ‘underdogs’ after Salop defender Tom Flanagan, who played under Parkinson at Sunderland said the hosts were strong favourites.

Parkinson added: “He’s only saying there division one and were division two and that’s a fact.

“A team mid-table in League One are going to be favourites against a team a division below. We’ve got to go there with that underdog mentality and understand to get through we’re going to have to reach the levels we did on New Year’s Day and probably above that.

“We’ve got to have a complete understanding that’s what it will take and we’ll be ready to give a real good account of ourselves and see if that’s good enough on the day.”
