Ex-England youth international joins Red Dragons until end of 2023/24 season

Wrexham AFC Women are delighted to announce the signing of ex-England youth international midfielder Brooke Cairns, who has signed a contract until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Cairns, 20, who most recently played for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division, will bolster Steve Dale’s squad as they prepare for Phase Two of the Genero Adran Premier season.

On signing for Wrexham, Cairns said: “I’m delighted to be here. I’m looking forward to the challenge and I can’t wait to get started.

I want to play at the highest level and aim for European football, and I’m looking forward to playing my part for this team. I can promise you one thing I can promise you one thing, I will give 100 per cent in every game. I’ll never leave anything out there. Goals, assists… they’ll come and I’m ready to put a show on.”

Capped at England Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 level, Cairns spent time with both Liverpool and Everton before moving to Women’s Super League side West Ham United in August 2021.

She was a regular in the Hammers’ match-day squad in her first season, and made her English top-flight debut for them, before spending time on loan with both Hashtag United and Ipswich Town.

Cairns signed for Wolves on a short-term deal in October but will now finish the season in North Wales.

On her signing, manager Steve Dale added: “Brooke will add a lot of quality to the team, with her background and experience and level that she has already played at, I’m certain that she can come in and make a big difference to the team.
