Davante Adams Opens Up About New York Jets Trade Rumors Ahead of 2024 Training Camp with deal already Completed
One of the bigger rumors in the NFL during the last week or so has been the New York Jets being connected to wide receiver Davante Adams. There has been a lot of speculation as to if a deal were to be made and if Adams would even want to play with quarterback Aaron Rodgers again.
In the most recent edition of Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, current Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams was asked about potentially being part of the New York Jets and playing with Aaron Rodgers once again.
“If I were to be reunited with anybody it would be with Aaron or be relocated anywhere it would be with Aaron. There’s a lot of stuff last year in the media with them asking, they talk about whatever without me even being involved in it. It ended up getting all the way to the point where it got in the locker room and people was thinking that I was the driving force.”
The wide receiver has been arguably the best in the NFL still as last season with the quarterback play for the Raiders, he was still able to produce 103 catches on 175 targets for 1,144 yards (11.1 yards per reception) and eight touchdowns. However, it was the first season since 2016 that Davante Adams did not make the Pro Bowl.
It will be interesting to see if the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Jets wind up making a trade, but it is clear that the Jets are interested and Adams is not opposed to a reunion with the quarterback he spent the first eight years of his career with.
The New York Jets are looking for a massive step from missing the playoffs and losing Aaron Rodgers to a torn Achilles tendon just four offensive snaps into the season. The team had essentially no offense in the passing game as they were 30th in the sport with 171.7 passing yards per game and 29th in scoring with just 15.8 points per game.
However, the team improved as they were able to add significant offensive line help during the offseason as they were able to sign All-Pro left tackle Tyron Smith, traded for left guard Josh Simpson, have right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker recovered from his torn Achilles and drafted offensive tackle Olu Fashanu with the 10th overall pick.
This team also signed veteran wide receiver Mike Williams to add another threat with Garrett Wilson, so adding Davante Adams would be a great sign for this offense to get another significant playmaker. Running back Breece Hall would not have to worry about getting too many carries as that would be two wide receivers that should get 100+ targets in a season.
