LUKE HUMPHRIES BREEZES PAST MICHAEL VAN GERWEN AND JOINS MICHAEL SMITH IN FINAL OF PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS NIGHT 16

Luke Humphries will face off against Michael Smith in the final of Night 16 of the 2024 Premier League Darts in Sheffield after securing a 6-3 win over Michael van Gerwen in the semi-finals, averaging 104.1 in a top-quality contest.

With both players having already secured their spot in the Premier League Darts playoffs, Humphries had continued his good form from last week’s win in Leeds with an impressive victory over Gerwyn Price in the quarter-finals earlier in the night. Van Gerwen meanwhile triumphed over Rob Cross in his quarter-final tie in Sheffield.

Starting strongly, Humphries raced out of the blocks to take a 2-0 lead with legs of 12 and 15 darts to send an early warning to van Gerwen. With a 12 darter, finished with a spectacular 142 checkout in the third leg, the world champion stretched even further clear before van Gerwen finally got of the mark in leg four with a 66 checkout.

With both players exchanging holds of throw in the following leg, van Gerwen was left with his back firmly against the wall at 5-2 down. Although the Dutchman got one leg back with a 12-darter finished on double 10 in leg 8, the Dutchman wasn’t able to pull off what would have been an epic comeback as Humphries kept his cool and kept his hopes of another weekly triumph alive by securing a 6-3 win.
