Ipswich Town Learn Asking Price Of Transfer Target
Ipswich Town will have to pay £5 million to secure the services of Tom Lawrence from Rangers this summer, according to Football Insider.
The 30-year-old joined the Scottish giants two years ago from Derby County, although endured an injury-hit first season. He returned to action this season, although mainly from the fringes of the squad, making 32 appearances in all competitions.
Although under contract for another 12 months, the versatile midfielder looks set to leave Ibrox this summer as manager Philippe Clement looks at rebuilding his squad in the hopes of catching rivals Celtic.
There have been a number of clubs linked to the ex-Manchester United youth prospect. Recently relegated Sheffield United are thought to be keen, whilst Besiktas have been named amongst his potential suitors. The Turks are currently managed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who was in charge of Rangers when Lawrence joined the club.
Despite arriving at Rangers on a free transfer following his departure from Derby, the Scottish Premiership runners-up are looking to bring in as much revenue as possible. As such, they have slapped a £5 million price tag on his head.
It has been said that Kieran McKenna has an eye on the Welshman though as he looks to add experience to his squad ahead of their Premier League return. The Tractor Boys are readying themselves for their first season in the top flight for 22 years after securing a stunning promotion from the Championship.
Ipswich are now fully focused on their summer activity after tying down their manager to a new contract. The 38-year-old was the subject of much speculation last month and was linked to the managerial position at both Chelsea and Manchester United. However, he signed a new four-year deal, keeping him at Portman Road until 2028.

Lawrence only has a handful of appearances in the Premier League, so could be considered somewhat of a risk should Ipswich pursue their interest. The Welshman was a big hit in the Championship with Derby, whilst also enjoying a loan spell with the Tractor Boys during the 2016/17 season.
It’s this stint that makes this an easy link to make. He was a popular figure and finished the campaign as the club’s top goalscorer. The Premier League is a different animal though and the romance has to be put aside. The winger has hardly set the Scottish Premiership alight, meaning Sheffield United could be the better option.
