Reporter tips Derby County, Portsmouth and Coventry City to target League One star
Derby County, Portsmouth, Coventry City and Watford have been tipped to show interest in Peterborough United star Harrison Burrows by reporter Alan Swann.
Derby County and Portsmouth will be joining Coventry City and Watford in the Championship, while Peterborough United’s failure in the play-offs means they will remain in League One
Posh are no strangers to interest in their star men and having fallen short of promotion, it’s widely expected that more of Darren Ferguson’s key players will be subject to interest from clubs in higher leagues.
Now, Peterborough Telegraph reporter Alan Swann has said to ‘expect’ interest in academy graduate and Harrison Burrows from a Championship quartet.
Derby County, Portsmouth, Coventry City and Watford have been tipped to show interest in Burrows.
The 22-year-old was one of League One’s standout players in the 2023/24 campaign, managing a remarkable goal contributions return. Burrows managed 12 goals and 18 assists in 58 games for the Posh, assuming the captain’s armband in January.
He now has one year left on his contract at London Road, so this summer could be the ideal time for a sale.
Ready for the Championship
Burrows has played Championship football before, managing three goals and seven assist in 37 games during Peterborough United’s previous stay in the second-tier.
With all of Derby County, Portsmouth, Coventry City and Watford tipped to be among those keen this summer, it would not be a surprise if the 22-year-old makes a deserved step up back to that level.
Few left-backs in world football can match his output in terms of goals and assists. The key role he plays in attacks was vital to Posh’s success and his role as captain displays a leadership and maturity beyond his years.
He’s also comfortable further forward as a wing-back and has played in midfield before. That looks to have equipped him well for a role as a creative full-back.
Potential Coventry City advantage
Of course, it remains to be seen if Burrows does indeed draw interest from Derby County, Portsmouth, Coventry City for Watford.
If they do though, it could be the Sky Blues who hold an advantage.
It emerged after the January transfer window, in which Coventry signed Ephron Mason-Clark from Posh, that the club are admirers of other Peterborough United stars, one of which they asked for an option on. As such, they could have dibs on another of their key players.
Burrows certainly fits that mould, giving them a potential advantage in a chase if it comes to be. Time will tell just what comes of his situation though, with higher leave interest inevitable after such a strong year.
