Wrexham target shares cryptic Instagram post as Phil Parkinson now looks set to miss out
Wrexham are yet to make a new signing since achieving promotion to League One but Phil Parkinson continues to be linked with potential new signings.
More than a month has now passed since Wrexham’s League Two campaign ended.
The 2-1 home win over Stockport County on April 27th saw Wrexham end the season on a high having already completed back-to-back promotions.
Wrexham have said goodbye to a number of players following promotions with the likes of Ben Tozer, Luke Young and Aaron Hayden all moved on.
Incoming deals have yet to be completed but there is no reason for panic on that front.
League Two finished before most other leagues, meaning Wrexham have been sitting back and assessing the market.
Some names are on the Wrexham transfer wish list though, and a large number of them played for the same team last season.
Wrexham target Jason Kerr posts cryptic message
Wrexham appear to have liked the look of Wigan Athletic last season.
Shaun Maloney’s men finished 12th in League One, 14 points adrift of the play-offs and 18 points clear of the relegation zone.
As much as Wrexham have ambitions to reach the top, that kind of league finish next season would not be a bad thing.
Wrexham are now looking at four Wigan players, starting with the released trio of Tom Pearce, Stephen Humphrys and Josh Magennis.
All three are free agents and have been let go, but Wrexham are also interested in defender Jason Kerr.
Kerr is out of contract this summer but Wigan have been fighting to keep the Scottish centre back.
Wrexham are allegedly pushing for a deal but Kerr gave Wigan fans new hope this weekend.
Kerr simply posted a photo of himself in a Wigan shirt on Instagram, leaving Latics fans believing that this is an indication of his decision to stay.
Kerr’s photo also appeared to show him wearing a captain’s armband, potentially hinting towards him becoming Wigan’s new skipper.
Wigan have released captain Magennis and may see Kerr – formerly captain at St Johnstone – as a natural replacement, possibly dangling the armband as a reason to stay.
