Josh Windass rejects new Sheffield Wednesday offer as duo lead chase – sources

Josh Windass has rejected a final contract offer from Sheffield Wednesday and will leave on a free transfer this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Windass is out of contract at Hillsborough at the end of this month and no deal has been agreed for him to remain at the club next season.

Hull and Coventry are both keen to boost their attacking options this summer and are planning to make him an offer over the coming weeks.

The English attacker scored six goals and laid on two assists in 25 appearances to help Sheffield Wednesday retain their Championship status for another year.

Josh Windass to leave Sheffield Wednesday after contract update

Windass has been a standout performer at Hillsborough since joining the club from Wigan Athletic in 2020.

During that time, the forward – who can play in a variety of different attacking positions – has scored 40 goals and laid on 17 assists in 135 appearances.

The Hull-born man has played 129 games in the second tier across his career, while he also spent two years with Scottish giants Rangers.

That experience prompted Sheffield Wednesday to try and retain his services for at least another season, but he will now leave the club this summer after rejecting their latest contract offer.

Coventry and Hull are expected to make Windass an offer as they look to land him on a free transfer once his deal in South Yorkshire runs out.

The Championship duo both missed out in their bids to finish in the play-off places last season.
