Exclusive: Crystal Palace tracking exciting Hull City winger Jaden Philogene
The 22-year-old has enjoyed an impressive debut campaign for the Tigers in the Championship, bagging 14 goal contributions – scoring eight and picking up six assists.
Philogene – who can play on either wing – joined Hull from Aston Villa in the summer for a reported £5million fee and signed a four-year deal with the Humberside-based outfit.
Hull vice-chairman Tan Kesler confirmed in September that Villa have first refusal to buy Philogene for a fixed fee of £15m should the two teams find themselves in the same division.
England U21 star Philogene has also had loan spells with Stoke and Cardiff City, racking up more than 70 senior appearances at Championship level.
The Eagles could face stiff competition for the attacker, with the Hammersmith-born Philogene reportedly on the radar of multiple Premier League clubs and teams across Europe.
The Londoner won his first U21 cap in October 2023, scoring twice against Serbia in a Euro 2025 qualifier. He is in the latest squad named by Lee Carsley for further qualifiers against Azerbaijan today and then Tuesday’s meeting with Luxembourg at Bolton Wanderers’ stadium.
Palace’s summer pursuit of Iliman Ndiaye – who the Eagles had courted during the January window – has been made more difficult after the Senegalese attacker returned to playing regularly for Marseille.
Eagles sporting director Dougie Freedman has developed a reputation for plucking the best young talent out of the Championship.
Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Adam Wharton have all made the move up from England’s second tier.
The value of Eze and Olise has rocketed since with the former signing an improved deal until 2027 in November. Olise, whose campaign has been badly disrupted by injury, committed to a fresh four-year contract in August. Palace could eventually pay £22m to Blackburn for Wharton, who arrived on February 1.
Palace’s commitment to signing young talent was underlined by the addition of Matheus Franca from Flamengo in the summer in a deal worth up to £26m. The 19-year-old is still adapting to Premier League life, making just 10 appearances this season.
