Ipswich Town have joined the race to sign Joe Rodon from Tottenham after his impressive loan spell with Leeds United last season.

The Welsh international spent the previous campaign with the Whites, and he was outstanding at the back for Daniel Farke’s side as they collected 90 points.

However, that wasn’t enough for automatic promotion, and Leeds were beaten by Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley to condemn them to another year in the Championship.

Following that defeat, Rodon returned to Spurs, but it seems he has no future with the Londoners, having fallen way down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou.

Therefore, a summer transfer move is on the cards, and it’s been reported that Leeds would love to bring the 26-year-old back to Elland Road.

But, that may not be straightforward, as journalist Alasdair Gold revealed on his YouTube channel that the newly-promoted Tractor Boys are also keeping tabs on Rodon.

Obviously, a move to Suffolk would appeal to Rodon as it would give him the opportunity to play in the Premier League next season as part of Kieran McKenna’s squad as they try to establish themselves in the top-flight.

Leeds United must do all they can to sign Joe Rodon

Even if Ipswich do formalise their interest in Rodon with a bid, there’s no guarantee that he would turn down Leeds.

They have an obvious advantage in the sense that the defender knows all about the club, and despite the disappointing ending, he clearly enjoyed his time in Yorkshire.

Furthermore, he may view Leeds as a better long-term option, and there’s no doubt they will appeal to players as they are a club with big ambitions.

From Farke’s perspective, he will be telling the board just how important it is to bring Rodon back, because he was a leader and a key figure in this team.

His physicality and recovery pace allowed the side to play a higher line, and he is also capable in possession, which is key to the manager as he looks for the side to build out from the back.

So, he ticks all the boxes for what Farke wants from a centre-back, and bringing Rodon back will no doubt be a priority.

Ultimately, though, it’s going to be down to the player and Spurs, so it’s one to monitor over the coming weeks.
