Everton could accept cut-price Jarrad Branthwaite offer as source reveals ‘massive’ news
Everton could be forced to sanction a cut-price deal for star defender Jarrad Branthwaite in the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (5 February) that Man United are currently in pole position to sign Branthwaite, 21, ahead of the summer window.
It is believed Spanish giants Real Madrid are also keen on the Carlisle academy product.
However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider a potential relegation for Everton in the 2023-24 campaign will spark “massive interest” in a cut-price deal for the England Under-21 international.
The Toffees have been deducted 10 points this term and now sit in the drop zone with 15 games of the season still to play.
Another potential factor in any deal is the proposed takeover of Everton by US-based group 777 Partners, who are still waiting for Premier League
approval to complete the deal, which was agreed in September 2023.
If that takeover were to fall through, it is believed clubs could then look to take advantage of the Merseysiders’ cash crisis and submit low-ball offers for Branthwaite.
The defender has made 26 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2023-24 campaign.
He has been a revelation for cash-strapped Everton since returning from a successful loan spell at PSV Eindhoven in the 2022-23 campaign.
Branthwaite signed a fresh deal at Goodison Park in October 2023 which is set to run until June 2027.
Everton are one point from safety in the Premier League after failing to win in their last six top-flight games.
