Exeter City ready for Fleetwood Town visit in ‘must-win’ game
The 3-0 defeat at Fleetwood Town was one of the real low moments of that run.
When Exeter City went through their tough, lean spell just before Christmas, failing to win in 13 League One games, a 3-0 defeat at Fleetwood Town was one of the real low moments of that run.
Today, the Grecians have the opportunity to right those wrongs when they welcome Fleetwood to St James Park, looking a far stronger and better proposition than they did back in mid-November. The Cod Army made a blistering start to that game – something City just can’t seem to do themselves at home – with a goal inside six minutes. Two more before half-time ended the game as a contest as the Grecians surrendered far too meekly.
There were no further goals, but the home team could have won by a far bigger scoreline that day. It is a result that still rankles but while Fleetwood are a different proposition themselves today, under the new management of Charlie Adam, City are keen to set the record straight.

“It was one of the low points of the season where we were very poor on the day,” Exeter boss Gary Caldwell said reflecting on that grim afternoon. “It was a moment where we were really struggling for results, but our performances around that were OK, but that was a real flat point and low moment where we were really poor.
“I don’t think we even filled the bench that day and had a few really young players on the bench but now, we see a totally different team and different squad going into this game and I hope we see a totally different performance and result.”
