Baltimore Orioles Reportedly Showed Interest in Trading for Marlins’ Ace

A new report indicates
the Baltimore Orioles looked at landing a different ace this offseason.

The Baltimore Orioles project to be one of the best teams in baseball this season once again after landing Corbin Burnes in a trade to boost their rotation.

They were seen as the American League favorites once the former Cy Young winner was added, but some brutal injury news about Kyle Bradish revealing he’s been moved to the injured list has dampened some excitement.

Last year’s ace missing any period of time for the Orioles is not ideal, but after getting some treatment, they’re hoping he only has to be out during the early stage of the season.

But, with an elbow injury already impacting this rotation, general manager Mike Elias could turn his attention back to a familiar deal he had reportedly shown interest in landing.

According to Barry Jackson and Craig Mish of The Miami Herald, Baltimore was the most aggressive in their pursuit of Miami Marlins’ ace Jesus Luzardo.

“The Orioles ultimately were unwilling to meet the Marlins asking price … The Marlins wanted a bigger package than Milwaukee received because Luzardo is under team control for three more seasons, compared with just one for Burnes,” they report.

What the asking price the Marlins were looking for is unknown, but it’s been speculated throughout the offseason they’ve been searching for upgrades at catcher and shortstop.
