Taijuan Walker makes his season debut today.

The Philadelphia Phillies (18-10) close out their series with the San Diego Padres (14-16) this afternoon. The Phillies are looking for their third series sweep of the season before heading to Los Angeles to start a series with the Angels on Monday.

With the 5-1 win behind another masterful performance from Ranger Suárez and a big night at the plate from Alec Bohm, the Phils are now 8-4 on the road this season and have won 10 of their last 12 games. They even gained a game on the Atlanta Braves in the NL East standings last night and now sit 1.5 games back of the division lead.

It’s a big day for the team and the fans as we welcome Taijuan Walker back to the rotation today. The veteran will make his season debut.Bob Melvin on loss to Phillies

Taijuan Walker (0-0) will take the ball for his season debut today. Activated off the IL, the veteran right-hander has been under scrutiny for subpar rehab outings in the minors. Last season, Walker pitched to a 15-6 record with a 4.38 ERA over 172 2/3 innings. He faced the Padres twice, going 2-0 but allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits with seven strikeouts and six walks in 10 innings.
Right-hander Michael King (2-2) gets the start for the Padres in the series finale. The reliever-turned-starter who came over in the Juan Soto trade, has had a rollercoaster of a season so far. He has a 4.11 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings across five starts. He got rocked in Colorado in his last outing, giving up six runs (four earned) on eight hits through 3 2/3 innings.
