FOX Analyst Warns the Miami Dolphins of Giving Tua Tagovailoa an Extension in 2024 Free Agency
FOX college football analyst Joel Klatt just released his first mock draft for the 2024 NFL Draft, which sees the Miami Dolphins potentially replacing Tua Tagovailoa with a new quarterback.
On the said list, six quarterbacks were selected in the first round, including Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., drafted with the 21st overall pick by Miami.

“Imagine starting over with a rookie deal at that position,” said Klatt. “Solidifying some of the things that they’ve got, particularly in their skill position, and having a guy that, quite honestly, is a better downfield passer than Tua. If you’re the Dolphins, you got to really think about this.”
Joel Klatt believes that the Miami Dolphins should consider moving on from Tua Tagovailoa
Tua Tagovailoa recently said that he wants to sign a new extension with the Miami Dolphins. However, Joel Klatt feels that signing Tagovailoa for top dollar is a “risky” move for Miami, given his troubling injury history.
Giving Tua a huge deal, I think, is risky. He has been injury-prone outside of that, but that’s clearly—from first-hand experience, it doesn’t get better,” said Klatt.
Other than the financial implications of this potential signing, Klatt also mentioned that Michael Penix Jr. looks like a better fit, scheme-wise, for the likes of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
“How many times did Tyreek have to readjust on an underthrown ball?” said Klatt. “Meanwhile, the best attribute that Michael Penix has is his ability to throw with great leverage and accuracy down the field. Him in that offense, to me, is like, I want to see it. I think it would be amazing.”
Miami Dolphins trending toward re-signing Tua Tagovailoa
Joel Klatt’s words might be taken with a grain of salt by the Miami Dolphins front office, especially since Tua Tagovailoa is coming off a career year. In 2023, Tagovailoa led the NFL in passing yards with 4,624, and he also had 29 touchdown passes.
The former Alabama signal-caller, who played all 17 regular-season games for the first time in his NFL career, was also selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time.
