Astros GM Revealed Key Player Extension Updates
The Houston Astros are hoping to keep their core in place for as many years as possible.
All of their success as a franchise began when Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman came into the fold.
Altuve started in 2011 and laid the foundation, then Bregman showed up in 2016 when the team was finally ready to start competing.
Those are two of the best players in Astros history and they have brought home two championships over the past seven years.
But, they are both aging and in need of a new contract.
Yet, it appears the Astros front office has not had any talks about extending either player.
According to Chandler Rome, Astros GM Dana Brown said there have been no extension conversations with those players.
Both players are entering the final year of their current deals.
This means they will both be unrestricted free agents after this season.
If a deal is going to get done, it makes sense to do it before the year begins.
That way it is not a distraction for the player
But, it looks like the Astros will be taking a different approach.
For many fans, the heart and soul of the team are Altuve and Bregman.
But they are no longer their best players.
Kyle Tucker and Yordan Alvarez have taken that honor and are the future of the franchise.
Still, Altuve and Bregman have some good years ahead of them.
