Hull City will give Jean Michael Seri a hero’s welcome when he returns ahead of the weekend trip to Huddersfield Town after his history-making exploits in the Africa Cup of Nations, though he won’t be in the squad at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Seri helped the Ivory Coast win the tournament on Sunday with another superb display in the 2-1 win over Nigeria at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, having been influential in the knockout stages after not playing at all in the group matches.
So good was the 32-year-old for the Elephants, that he was named in the Team of the Tournament for a string of terrific displays for the tournament hosts, in what was a sensational turnaround from being on the verge of elimination after the group stages, which saw head coach Jean-Louis Gasset sacked and Emerse Fae replace him on an interim basis, and to go on and win it.

“I could talk to about him for days, I’m so happy for him, genuinely,” Rosenior told Hull Live. “I’ve been messaging him all through the tournament, but I purposely haven’t called him because I wanted him to focus on that (the final). For him to achieve something in his life that will never be forgotten (is incredible). He actually sent me videos on WhatsApp of the celebrations, he’s at the president’s house today (Tuesday). It’s a massive tournament. I’m half-African. I’m from Sierra Leone, so I know how big it is out there. Honestly, for a player at Hull City to win a major tournament, it’s something I think we can all be so proud of him for.
