Player was 'willing to accept' Brighton move in January – PL man wanted to make exception for Seagulls - Sport Witness

Brighton player agrees personal terms with new club – Seagulls now set to negotiate fee

VfB Stuttgart continue to move forward to keep Brighton & Hove Albion striker Deniz Undav at the club.

A fresh report from Sky Deutschland claims there’s now a ‘verbal agreement’ between the Bundesliga side and the player.

It’s said they agreed on a three or four-year contract, and that should be signed soon as the permanent move from Brighton is sorted.

It was never a secret that Undav would like to stay at Stuttgart following the loan spell he’s had.

The striker joined the German side last summer, scoring 19 goals and contributing ten assists in 33 appearances during his loan.

Stuttgart are believed to have a buying option worth around €20m, but the word in the German media had been that they were trying to get the signing done for less.

Since Undav had a very good season and is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €25m, it remains to be seen whether Brighton will really give a discount for his sale.

Now as the personal talks have moved forward to a point there’s an agreement, perhaps the clubs are not that far from a deal.

Let’s start with the bad news for Brighton & Hove Albion fans – long-serving midfielder Pascal Groß, the Seagulls’ great creative force for seven consecutive seasons, is increasingly likely to leave Sussex this summer with Borussia Dortmund working to engineer a move for the 33-year-old Germany international, who has just one year left on his current contract.

This isn’t a youth signing, in comparison to many of the Seagulls’ recent moves in the transfer market. Wieffer is 24 and while he missed out on the eventual Euro 2024 squad, he has nine caps for the Netherlands and a goal against Gibraltar. In other words, Wieffer is not a developmental prospect but a player who should head straight into the first team and, all going well, stay there for years to come.
