Burnley player should prioritise Birmingham City over Sunderland and Bristol City: View
Burnley’s Scott Twine is a wanted man heading into the summer and if he is going to leave he should make a move to Birmingham City a priority.
It is expected that there will be lots of changes at Birmingham City Football Club over the coming months following relegation to League One.
The Blues had a dreadful 2023/24 season, as changes of managers and poor performances on the pitch all resulted in the club sliding down the table and eventually being relegated on the final day.
When the new Birmingham City board arrived, the last thing they would have thought about was being in England’s third tier.
However, that has happened now, and the club needs to get on with things in order to be ready for the new season after they confirmed Chris Davies as their new manager.
Davies joined the club from Tottenham Hotspur, where he had been working as an assistant manager to Ange Postecoglou.
He hasn’t been in the role for long, and it already seems he is keen to get some new players into the squad, as Birmingham are being linked with a move for Burnley’s Scott Twine.
Birmingham City are among the teams interested in Scott Twine
According to The Sun, Birmingham City are interested in signing Burnley attacker Scott Twine this summer.
The report states that the Clarets are willing to sell Twine in this transfer window, which is a major boost to interested parties.
But as well as the Blues being interested in a deal, they also face competition from teams in the Championship.
Bristol City are one side interested in the player, which doesn’t come as a surprise given that he spent a part of last season on loan at the club and manager Liam Manning has worked with him on two separate occasions now.
This report also names Sunderland as a team that is also keen on signing the Burnley player, and this interest comes even though the Black Cats are yet to find a permanent new manager.
Birmingham City are said to have made an enquiry for the attacker, who looks no matter what to be leaving Turf Moor this summer.
Scott Twine should pick Birmingham City over Sunderland and Bristol City
Out of these three teams interested in signing Burnley’s Scott Twine, it would be expected that Bristol City and Sunderland will have the advantage in the race, as they are both Championship teams compared to Birmingham City, who are going to be in League One.
However, while Bristol City and Sunderland may offer opportunities for the 24-year-old, as he can continue playing in the second tier, he should be looking at Birmingham City as a higher priority.
That is because Twine spent the second half of last season on loan at Bristol City, a loan that didn’t really go well, as he played just 10 games and scored twice.
Continuing with Liam Manning may give the Robins an advantage in the race for Twine, but given how the loan went with the side, it may be a move that he shouldn’t look to make into a permanent one.
Meanwhile, Sunderland may be a good option for the player, as they need new attacking players, and given the fact that they like having young players in the team, Twine does fit into that. But the Black Cats currently don’t have a manager in place, and if he were to join now, there are no guarantees that he is going to play, given that he wasn’t bought when their manager was on board.
Therefore, that leaves Birmingham City as the final option for the Burnley man this summer, and while they are in League One, it wouldn’t be a bad move for the player when all is considered.
Twine is no stranger to life in League One, as he’s played in that division before for Swindon Town and MK Dons.
The attacker has played 71 times in League One to this day, during which he has scored 27 goals and recorded 16 assists.
The last time Twine played in League One was in the 2021/22 season, a campaign in which Twine was a part of an MK Dons side that went all the way to the play-offs.
That season, Twine played 47 games in the league, including the play-offs, averaging 86 minutes on the pitch, and his performances were recognised by Sofascore.com several times during that campaign.
