Sheffield Wednesday target set to undergo medical with Championship rivals, £2.6m fee agreed
For Sheffield Wednesday, all focus right now will be on the opening game of the new season.
Sheffield Wednesday and manager Danny Rohl will watch the rest of the Championship roster in action on Saturday, as the 2024/25 season gets underway.
The new campaign kick-started on Friday night with Steel City rivals Sheffield United winning away at Preston North End, and Blackburn Rovers beating Derby County at Ewood Park.
Sheffield Wednesday vs Plymouth Argyle is the first game for Owls fans to take in, with kick off at Hillsborough at 4pm on Sunday.
And whilst Rohl and the players will be honed in on this tough opening game, there may still be a thought on the remainder of the transfer window.
This week, Sheffield Wednesday completed the signing of Ike Ugbo from Troyes, but there’s still one or two gaps in the side that could do with bolstering.
Now though, Rohl has seen one of his side’s key summer transfer targets near a move to a Championship rival.

Karamoko Dembele set for Championship move after Sheffield Wednesday interest
Sheffield Wednesday were linked with Karamoko Dembele earlier this summer, following the former Celtic wonderkid’s impressive season on loan with Blackpool last time round.
But the Brest winger is now set to join Championship rivals QPR in a deal worth a reported €3million (£2.57million).
Fabrizio Romano says that the 21-year-old is set to undergo a medical with the West Londoners this weekend.
It comes after widespread interest in Dembele this summer from the likes of Wednesday, Derby County, and Portsmouth among others.
Why Sheffield Wednesday haven’t pushed on with a deal for Karamoko Dembele
Sheffield Wednesday paid £3million for Ugbo, it has been claimed, with the striker becoming one of the most expensive Sheffield Wednesday signings of the modern era.
Ugbo always seemed like the key target and now having spent that much on him, spending any more on any other players seems highly unlikely.
So Dembele then only ever seemed like an option, and possibly a loan option for Sheffield Wednesday.
Nevertheless, he’s a good player and QPR could be a very good move for him.
Now, the Owls need to think about bolstering central midfield and centre-back, wit those two positions seemingly a lot lighter than others on the pitch.
Sheffield Wednesday fans can watch the Plymouth Argyle game live on Sky Sports on Sunday afternoon.
