Leicester City striker approach ‘confirmed’ as Steve Cooper made to wait for news of transfer success
Latest Leicester City transfer news from LeicestershireLive as Crystal Palace apparently ready to sanction move for 32-year-old
Leicester City are set to learn in the next few days if Crystal Palace are willing to sanction a transfer for striker Jordan Ayew.
News of Foxes’ apparent interest in the veteran striker emerged at the weekend, and now the London Standard are saying Palace are open to letting Ayew leave if an attractive enough offer is made during the current transfer window.
The 32-year-old joined Palace from Swansea City in 2019 and has been a regular for nearly all of his spell in south London, playing at least 30 Premier League matches a season over the past five years. In that time, he has scored 23 goals in 211 appearances.

Last term, the Ghana international scored four times and set up seven more for Palace, mostly from a right-wing berth. However, his game time was reduced when new Palace boss Oliver Glasner shifted to a 3-4-2-1 system towards the end of last season. Another concern for Leicester boss Steve Cooper to consider is that Ayew has not scored more than five goals in a season since 2019/20.
He is currently with Palace on a pre-season tour of the USA, and the Standard report adds: “Leicester have approached Palace about Ayew’s availability and the Eagles will decide in the coming days whether the move is one they are willing to sanction.”
City are currently without Jamie Vardy, who has picked up an injury in pre-season, leaving Tom Cannon rivalling Patson Daka for the starting striker berth at the King Power Stadium.
As such, City boss Cooper has refused to rule out pushing for a new striker before the transfer window closes. Good news for Leicester is that Ayew should not be hugely costly, having entered the final year of his Palace contract after signing an extension last November that runs until next June.
