Wisconsin LB to miss first half of Alabama game after ejection for targeting
Wisconsin will be without starting linebacker Jake Chaney next Saturday when the Badgers face the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Chaney was flagged for targeting and ejected from a game against South Dakota in the second half on Saturday. He appeared to hit the player through the chest and did so by lowering the crown of his helmet.
The linebacker had 80 tackles and three sacks last season.
Wisconsin hosts Alabama next Saturday at 11 a.m. (Noon ET) on FOX at Camp Randall Stadium. Th two teams haven’t met since 2015, an Alabama win.
Alabama Football: Tide shuffling the deck on the OL with Kadyn Proctor out
Alabama Football is making a change on the offensive line in week two against South Florida with Kadyn Proctor missing his second straight game with a shoulder injury he suffered in pre-game warmups last week.
Redshirt sophomore Elijah Pritchett stepped in at left tackle last week in place of Proctor. Pritchett suffered a minor injury against Western Kentucky, and with him limited in practice Alabama experimented with a new-look on the offensive line.
Now, it looks like that experiment will be fully realized when the Tide take the field against USF tonight.
Star left guard Tyler Booker is kicking out to left tackle, and Michigan State transfer Geno VanDeMark is sliding in at left guard. Booker played tackle in high school and has practiced a decent bit at tackle over the last year so he could be ready in case of emergency. It’s possible that Booker would have ultmately been the Tide’s starting left tackle this season if Proctor never transferred back from Iowa.
VanDeMark transferred to Alabama this offseason. The junior played in 18-games during his two seasons at Michigan State, including eight starts. VanDeMark has given the Tide a lot of versatility and the ability to move things around this week. He has practiced at both guard positions and center, and is likely seen by the coaching staff as the line’s sixth man.
