Leicester City forgotten man in surprise Premier League transfer link

Latest Leicester City transfer news as Sheffield United are linked with a move for goalkeeper Danny Ward in the January window

Sheffield United have reportedly “asked” about Leicester City goalkeeper Danny Ward ahead of a potential transfer.

The Premier League side are reportedly looking for a stopper in the current transfer window, and have already been linked with a surprise move for Leicester legend Kasper Schmeichel. A move for Schmeichel could prove too expensive for the Blades, who now appear to have turned their attentions to Ward.

According to The Sun, they are “keen” on taking Ward on loan until the end of the season. They say Leicester would prefer to sell, but that a loan with a future buy clause would “get the deal done”.

Championship rivals Cardiff City are also said to be keen on a loan deal for Ward, and will make a move if his mooted switch to Sheffield United does not work out.

Leicester have already offloaded one goalkeeper on loan this month. Daniel Iversen joined Stoke this week until the end of the season, freeing up a space in the squad.

But there are still four senior goalkeepers on the books in Mads Hermansen, Jakub Stolarczyk, Alex Smithies and Ward. Smithies, however, has not been registered in the 25-man Championship squad.

Ward is yet to make an appearance for Leicester this season. He was on the bench for the FA Cup win over Millwall on Saturday, but has not featured in the last four Championship matchday squads.
