Wolves make formal £5.1 million bid for Nantes defender Bastien Meupiyou
Wolverhampton Wanderers have had a quiet summer transfer window so far regarding arrivals.
They have added the likes of Tommy Doyle, Jorgen Strand Larsen, Rodrigo Gomes and Pedro Lima to the squad but more reinforcements are needed, particularly in defence.
The Old Gold lost Max Kilman to West Ham United and they are yet to sign a replacement.
With just two weeks remaining in the transfer window, it appears Wolves are stepping up their efforts to sign a quality defender.
According to Fabrice Hawkins, the Midlands outfit have made a formal £5.1 million bid for Nantes centre-back Bastien Meupiyou.
But the Ligue 1 side are not reportedly happy with the offer as they have rejected it.
Wolves have already reached an agreement in principle with the player but nothing can progress until a fee is also agreed between the two clubs.
Meupiyou is a promising young talent who has seen a huge development after joining Nantes in 2019.
He was handed his Ligue 1 debut in September last season but missed the rest of the campaign due to a long-term injury.
Meupiyou could be a smart acquisition for Wolves this summer but he will be one for the future.
Gary O’Neil’s side currently need to sign an experienced centre-back as they aim to improve on their 14th-place finish last season.
The English side were linked with RB Salzburg’s Oumar Solet but the Frenchman now looks very close to joining Hoffenheim.
