Commanders lose Jonathan Allen for the rest of the season after a significant injury

Commanders DT Jonathan Allen leaves Week 6 game early due to injury. HC Dan Quinn gives a devastating update.

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders have turned heads this season due to Daniels’ play and the grittiness of the team. Although the Commanders came up short in Week 6, losing a defensive cornerstone might set them back from a deeper push later this season.

In Week 6, the Commanders were putting up a fight against the Baltimore Ravens, who are considered to be Super Bowl contenders this season. Late in the third quarter the Ravens entered the red zone which led to a Derrick Henry touchdown. During the play, Commanders’ defensive tackle, Jonathan Allen, went down with an injury.

Allen missed the remainder of the game and the Commanders lost 23-10. He had two solo tackles prior to his exit.

Two-time MVP Lamar Jackson finished the game with 323 passing yards, 40 rushing yards and a TD while Henry rushed for 132 yards and two TDS. Daniels had himself a day as well, going 24/35 for 269 yards and two TDS.

While Allen’s injury was not revealed during his early exit or after the game, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported today that Allen suffered a “significant” pectoral injury. Then later today, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn shared that Allen will have a season-ending surgery.

“It’s a big blow for us. Jon Allen’s obviously been a staple player here and the play style and the attitude,” Quinn told reporters at today’s press conference. “We’re really bummed for him as the man and the ballplayer. We’ll certainly miss him this season. He’ll likely get surgery in the days ahead.”

Allen has finished the 2024 season with a total of 15 tackles and two sacks. Rookie Jer’Zhan Newton (a second-round pick out of Illinois) will replace Allen on the D-line. Newton recorded three tackles and a QB-pressure in Week 6.
