Crystal Palace could still replace Jairo Riedewald with £17k-a-week free-agent

Despite the summer transfer window being long closed, Crystal Palace could still strengthen with a free agent.

The summer transfer window was busy for Dougie Freedman with seven first-team arrivals coming through the doors – significantly bolstering Oliver Glasner’s squad.

The cream of the crop has so far been Eddie Nketiah who scored his first goal this week, while the move for Daichi Kamada is being criticised by many.

After such a poor start to the season, there will already be plans in place for January in the event additions are needed by Crystal Palace.

But what if additions are needed beforehand? Well, one free agent might be an excellent signing.

Yusuf Yazici could make for an excellent midfield signing

For Crystal Palace, one position which looked like a strength before the season started was midfield with Adam Wharton, Cheick Doucoure and Jefferson Lerma all strong choices to start.

However, so far they have all struggled with fitness and form – which means another midfielder wouldn’t go a miss – especially a versatile one.

According to HITC, the chances of the Eagles signing Yazici are higher than expected as the free agent has plenty of interest in a move with multiple Premier League clubs interested.

Crystal Palace are among these clubs keen on the 27-year-old Turkish midfielder – with Brentford and Bournemouth also considering an offer for the former Lille star.

The biggest threat for the Eagles comes from Aston Villa who would be keen on adding the European experience of Yazici to their ranks.

Crystal Palace failed to replace Jairo Riedewald in the summer with another midfielder – but signing Yazici would tick that box and probably even more considering he would bolster the club’s attacking midfield options as well.

Should Crystal Palace make free signing?

The pros and cons of signing Yazici see us lean more in favour of the midfielder arriving – and we’ll explain why.

Yazici is a midfielder who is far more proactive than the likes of Doucoure and Lerma and could therefore offer something different in the centre of midfield – where Glasner has tried and failed to use Kamada.

Another reason going in his favour is Yazici only earned roughly £17k-a-week at Lille and so he would be unlikely to break the bank if signed this summer and fits right into the wage bill at Selhurst Park.

Yazici would be great as a midfielder to push up into the final third which is the role he is most likely to feature in for the Eagles.

Despite Lille using him as an attacking midfielder or forward player, Yazici is better we think slightly further back and could be immense in the pivot next to Wharton or Doucoure.

In summary, to get Yazici for free and on cheap wages would be a good deal – now we just need to wait and see where he ends up.
