Daichi Kamada offers exciting glimpse into future in Crystal Palace debut | Evening Standard

crystal palace fans already fed up with former Lazio midfielder

After making the move from Lazio in the summer, Daichi Kamada has been enduring a torrid start to his new experience at Crystal Palace, with a section of the club’s fanbase already giving up on him.

The 28-year-old rose to prominence during his time at Eintracht Frankfurt. His stint in Germany reached its pinnacle in the 2021/22 campaign when he helped the club achieve Europa League glory.

After seeing out his contract with the Bundesliga side, Kamada signed for Lazio as a free agent. He penned a one-year-old contract with an option to extend it for another three years. But despite Claudio Lotito’s attempts, the Japanese midfielder eventually opted against triggering the clause, instead completing his second Bosman move in as many summers.

Kamada thus reunited with his old Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace, but the duo have yet to recapture the magic of their initial collaboration. Instead, the former Lazio man has been struggling to deliver the goods, failing to make a single goal contribution in six Premier League appearances. His only strike came in a 4-0 victory over Norwich in the Carabao Cup.

So as La Lazio Siamo Noi reveals, Crystal Palace fans are already fed up with the Japan international. Some of the Eagles’ supporters described him as a “terrible” player, while others are even blaming him for the team’s shortcomings thus far this season. The Glaziers currently sit 18th in the table with only three points in six rounds.

Kamada also suffered a slow start to life at Lazio under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri, but his form comprehensively improved upon the arrival of Igor Tudor in March.

Only compliments were being said about Crystal Palace back in May, when Michael Olise was sending Casemiro collapsing to the turf like collateral damage en route to goal.

Fewer than 150 days have passed since the Eagles mauled Manchester United 4-0 in the Selhurst Park mizzle — Palace, at the time, in the midst of season-ending form the likes of which even their most ardent fans had never seen coming.

start to this campaign, though, could scarcely be more different.

In Saturday’s two-way battle for a first Premier League win of the season, it was under-fire Sean Dyche and Everton who came up trumps, as below-par Palace fell to a third league defeat of the season already. They have just three points, all from draws.
