Gary Lineker says former Everton man was the best player from his country in Premier League history
Everton have seen their fair share of Premier League legends take to the field at Goodison Park.
Wayne Rooney, Peter Reid, Duncan Ferguson and Kevin Ratcliffe are just a few.
In recent times, it’s fair to say the Toffees haven’t had too many iconic players take the Premier League by storm.
However, talking to the latest edition of the Rest is Football Podcast, Gary Lineker has claimed the Toffees had the best Australian to ever play in England on their books.
Gary Lineker impressed by former Everton legend
When discussing the best players from down under to make an impact, Lineker couldn’t look any further than Tim Cahill.
“I don’t know, I think I might go, Tim Cahill, because he was here quite a while; he was a consistently good goalscorer, really good player,” he said.
Cahill was undoubtedly capable of a spectacular striker, but his industrious work and physicality endeared him to the Goodison Park faithful.
And with 68 goals in 278 games, there’s a solid argument to suggest he is the best Aussie ever to grace English soil.
Cahill is now the technical director of the Qatar Football Association and was heavily involved in the 2022 World Cup.
Nevertheless, the former Everton striker still has a soft spot for the Toffees and has weighed in on the club’s current wranglings with the Premier League.
“The decision for Everton has set the bar for the Premier League and football,” Cahill wrote on X.
