Wolves expert concerned Gary O’Neil could do something ‘remarkably harsh’ vs Crystal Palace

Wolves are preparing to return to action in the Premier League as Crystal Palace visit Molineux.

Matchday 10 is fast approaching and Gary O’Neil’s side are still without a win in the 2024/25 league campaign.

In fact, the Old Gold haven’t won in the Premier League in over six months, telling of the importance of the upcoming clash with Palace.

Molineux will play host to the bottom-of-the-table clash that will see two teams desperate for three points go head-to-head.

There was some concern over captain Mario Lemina during Wolves’ dramatic draw against Brighton, as the skipper was hooked at halftime.

O’Neil expects Lemina to be fit to face Palace, putting the midfielder’s early withdrawal down to a ‘slight calf problem’.

It will be Palace who are more concerned on the injury front ahead of the fixture, as Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton were hurt during the Eagles’ EFL Cup win over Aston Villa.

Oliver Glasner will not want to be without the crucial pair for the trip to Molineux, giving O’Neil a possible boost regarding the quality of the squad his players will face.

Regardless of Palace’s injuries, Wolves have to set up with the desire to win and nothing else, with a lot of attention set to be on the manager’s squad selection.

Tommy Doyle has to start against Crystal Palace

Wolves’ late draw with Brighton on matchday nine gave O’Neil some temporary breathing space ahead of the clash with Palace.

The manager made some bold changes to his squad, with none more questionable than the decision to drop summer signing Andre to bring in Tommy Doyle.

O’Neil’s call proved to be a success as the Englishman was pivotal to Wolves’ result, with journalist Liam Keen believing that Doyle deserves to keep his place.

“I think if Tommy Doyle is dropped against Palace, it would be remarkably harsh,” Keen said on the E&S Wolves Podcast.

“We would need some in-depth tactical reason for him not playing. I think Tommy Doyle has got the shirt right now in my opinion.”

Despite Andre’s tidiness in midfield, nothing can take away from Doyle’s performance at the Amex, putting pressure on O’Neil to reward the former Manchester City starlet with another start.
