Hull City Look Set To Make Youth International Their First Summer Signing

Hull City look set to make their first move of the summer transfer window as they move to sign Hungarian right-back Janos Bodnar, as reported by Nemzeti Sport.

Bodnar is an 18-year-old right-back who currently plays for Peterborough United’s U-21s and is reported to be in discussions with the Tigers over a free transfer.

The Hungarian U-20 international has been at Posh since the age of eight. The youngster would likely need to fight strongly for a first-team spot, with club captain Lewis Coyle likely to be ahead of him in the pecking order. Via Hungarian media, the defender commented on the potential move that it would be ‘great’.

“We are currently negotiating with Hull City, professionally, the change would be great. Hull City is considered a leading team in the Championship, a team with a long history.”

They outlined their future plans at the club, everything was extremely sympathetic, and they told me that they would count on me in the first team and that they would definitely give me the opportunity to prove myself,” he added.

The youngster also confirmed that he had previously had a trial at his potential new club.

In February, I also had a trial game, after which they immediately told me that they definitely wanted to sign me. They added that it was obvious from the first moment that, despite my young age, I was a leader on the field, which they particularly liked.”

His agent, Georgi Attila, also praised the attacking full-back to the national media outlet:

“Hull City’s interest did not surprise me, as we constantly monitored the English and domestic markets due to Gergő’s assessment. He is quick and courageous in attacking, has dangerous passes and is very strong in one-on-one duels, which is already essential in this position in today’s football.”

“A player with a professional mentality and character, a real leader on the pitch in his club team and in the age-group national team”

If this signing were to materialise, it may provide a question mark over the future of Cyrus Christie, with the defender playing 24 matches this season but now consistently being left out of the squad or finding himself an unused substitute off the bench.

The Yorkshire outfit face Stoke City after the international break, where they will be hoping to climb back into the top six.
